Education projects often combine large shared spaces with fixed budgets, and the interiors still need to give students, faculty, and visitors a place worth spending time in. SanFoot natural wood veneer has been specified in education projects ranging from a music education hall in China to a community college theater in New York.
The two projects below show different strengths of the material, one at a scale of 150,000 square feet and one built carefully within a college budget.
Consistency Across 150,000 Square Feet
The Tianjin Juilliard School in Tianjin, China, completed in 2020, used SanFoot Eucalyptus Quarter Cut Random Match, stained, across approximately 150,000 square feet of walls, ceilings, and architectural millwork. Diller Scofidio + Renfro chose Eucalyptus for its consistency across the numerous flitches a project of that size draws on, and the specification was a repeat for the firm following its success at Lincoln Center.
Consistency matters most on a project where one material appears in many rooms of the same building, and a species chosen with that in mind helps the look stay even from space to space.

Working Within a Budget and Unusual Dimensions
At Monroe Community College Theater in Rochester, New York, completed in 2017, Popli Design used SanFoot Cherry Quarter Cut and Walnut Flat Cut on walls and acoustic ceiling reflectors, direct glued to gypsum board and applied to acoustical panels. The award-winning design was built within the college’s budget and includes a dimensioned aluminum reveal system set at unique angles.
SanFoot’s sequencing and invisible seaming on site were key to panel dimensions that would otherwise have been unlikely.

Built for Daily Campus Use
SanFoot arrives from our factory pre-finished with a urethane sealer and finish, so the surface is durable and cleanable in high traffic spaces. An Elite finish is also available for added durability and cleanability where traffic is heaviest. SanFoot carries a Class A fire rating under ASTM E84-24 when installed over drywall, and commercial wallcovering installers handle installation with standard tools.
With over 50 years of installations worldwide, the product has a long record across commercial, education, and performing arts spaces.
Specifying SanFoot for an Education Project
Species, cut, and match can be chosen for the character of each space. Before full installation, a test area of no fewer than three full-width sheets per pattern should be installed and approved by the architect, designer, or owner.
