How to Install and Care for Your Wood Veneer?

Installing SanFoot natural wood veneer wallcovering is not that different from installing a regular vinyl wallcovering. However, it is a natural wood product, which means that the area where it will be installed must be prepared precisely to ensure the best results possible. After the wall has been primed and cured as directed, the SanFoot sheets are applied in consecutive sheets, smoothed and wiped clean. Once the veneer has been applied, taking care of your SanFoot natural wood veneer wallcovering will ensure it provides you with many years of beautiful service.

Wood Veneer Care and Maintenance

Dusting and Vacuuming

Dust and debris can build up on real wood veneers just like it can on furniture. To clean your wood veneer walls thoroughly, you need to remove the debris. Dusting is fine for daily cleaning. Periodically, you need to get the soft brush attachment out and do a deep cleaning to remove the debris that hides in the nooks and crannies. Vacuum approximately every six months for the best results.

Washing

Your walls pick up more dirt than you might imagine. Whether because people brush up against them or because they touch them, your walls can get fairly dirty and need a good scrubbing from time to time. Wood might not show the dirt as much as a light-colored wall, but you will still need to clean it. Use a few teaspoons of mild dishwashing detergent diluted in a gallon of warm water. Apply it with cellulose sponges scrubbing small sections at a time. Rinse with clean warm water, and buff dry using a fresh cloth. Drying as soon as possible will prevent a film from developing on the finish.

What to Avoid

Some chemicals and products can damage your wood veneer or the protective finish. Avoid using ammonia-based cleaners, which can damage the finish. Condensation can create a cloudy look on the finish, so keep the wood dry and clean it thoroughly especially in wet, humid environments. Spills and splashes should also be addressed as soon as possible to avoid damaging both the finish and the adhesives.

The high-gloss surface of real wood veneers will retain its shine naturally. There is no need to use abrasive or harsh cleaners, which can scratch and damage it. Using a mild detergent and water should be sufficient for most cleaning needs. Wax can leave a build-up that can obscure the shine. If you want a little more gloss, use a soft microfiber cloth to apply a light oil-based polish and gently wipe it away. However, regular dusting should be more than sufficient to keep your SanFoot looking its best.
