Curved walls, freestanding columns, and radius corners are where an interior finish gets tested. Flat materials can lift, crack, or telegraph seams on these surfaces, and the result is visible from every angle. For specifiers who want natural wood on a curve, the material has to flex without failing.
SanFoot natural wood veneer wallcovering is built for that condition. Its unique 5-ply construction allows greater flexibility for application to contoured surfaces, including curved walls, columns, and radius corners. The veneer is flexible enough to wrap around 90-degree corners without cracking, and it installs with the same tools and procedures as standard vinyl wallcovering.
Why the 5-ply build matters on a curve
Most of the performance on a curved install comes from how the material is made. SanFoot’s multi-ply construction distributes stress across layers so the veneer bends without splitting the face. That same build keeps it light enough for ceiling applications, which means it can follow the geometry of a space from wall to soffit to column without switching products.
Because installation uses standard wallcovering tools and follows procedures similar to vinyl wallcovering, the learning curve for experienced wallcovering contractors is minimal. The material comes from the factory prefinished with urethane sealer and finish, so there is no post-install coating or sanding step on the veneer face.

Curves and columns on projects
Our Look Book includes several projects where curves and columns drove the specification:
- Echo Spa and Condominium: curvaceous walls and columns adorned by 13-foot-high sheets of SanFoot Recon Indian Rosewood Flat Cut across a two-tower residential development.
- Regus Office Space, Palm Beach Gardens: Walnut Burl direct-glued to gypsum on walls, columns, and the reception desk to create a dramatic entrance.
- ArcBest Transport Company: custom-stained SanFoot direct-glued to gypsum, with veneer-wrapped beams in the boardroom using SanFoot’s added flexibility.
Surface prep and adhesive selection for curved installs
On a curve, adhesive coverage and bond strength matter more than on a flat wall because the veneer sits under mild tension around the radius. Jacaranda’s installation guidance is clear: surface preparation, adhesive and primer selection, environment conditions, and quality workmanship are the key elements for a successful install.
- Primers: PRO-977 by Roman Decorating Products, Zinsser Guardz (recommended for damaged drywall or loose paint).
- Adhesive: Roman III Non-Strippable Heavy Duty Clay is the go-to adhesive for installing SanFoot natural wood veneer wallcoverings.
A consistent adhesive bed across the full curve, with proper dry time per the installation instructions, helps prevent lifting where tension is highest.
Planning checklist for columns, curves, and radii
A clean curved install starts with decisions made before anyone picks up a trowel:
- Confirm the geometry: identify which surfaces are curved, which are columns, and where the radius changes or transitions to flat.
- Confirm the substrate: gypsum, MDF, or another approved surface, prepped and primed per Jacaranda’s installation instructions.
- Confirm primer and adhesive: select from Jacaranda’s approved list and plan for consistent coverage on the radius.
- Plan grain direction and seams: decide whether the grain runs vertically or follows the curve, and confirm where seams land so joints read intentionally.
- Plan a mockup if the column or curve is a high-visibility element such as a lobby, reception area, or corridor feature.
